San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, San Jose, CA.
TECHstyle SoftWEAR: Surface & Shape

Collaborating on the installation with fashion designer Colleen Quen and enviroment designer Rick Lee, Takara created digital textiles reflecting on the visual identity of Silicon Valley. The public online image collection component of project (fusionwearsv) was from May 3 though June 4th, 2010. Resulting installation, TECHStyle SoftWEAR: Surface & Shape, exhibited September 27 through October 31st, 2010. Project supported with an Applied Materials Excellence in the Arts Grant, Creative Connections James Irvine Foundation Grant and an NEA Access to Excellence Grant through the Zero1 Art & Technology Network. .

AWARDS AND GRANTS

Target Arts Grant 2010 Takara will be conducting a recycled materials art workshop at Hoarce Mann Elementary in San Jose in Spring 2011 with this grant.

2010 Rambus/KCI Innovation Award , First Place Award. This honor was awarded to Takara for Picking Strawberries on Gold Mountain , a history animation workshop series conducted at two Santa Clara County schools in April and May, 2010.

Applied Materials Excellence in the Arts Grant 2010, Grant awarded to support the TECHstyle SoftWEAR: Surface & Shape commission and public online project, fusionwearsv.

Creative Connections James Irvine Foundation Grant 2010, Grant awarded to support the TECHstyle SoftWEAR: Surface & Shape commission and public online project, fusionwearsv.

Unity Hands Kimono - Commissioned by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation
for their National Leadership in Action Award Ceremony, Seattle, WA, May 1 and 2nd, 2007.

Award recipient was the Associated Black Charities of Maryland. Corinne was one of five artists selected nationally to create a sculptural award inspired by the foundation’s logo.

Distinguished Artist of the Year Award 2006, City of Cupertino, CA. This monetary award recognizes excellence in the arts and is awarded by the Fine Arts Commission of the City of Cupertino, 2006.

The mixed-media sculpture artist created large, funky flower hair ornaments from a blend of mundane and elegant materials. The whimsical floral explosions of wire and wrappers are oversized allusions to traditional Japanese kanzashi hair ornaments and Okinawan dance hats. Guests came to sample the wrapped foods used in her creations and see her work with silks, food wrappers, sushi grass, pearls and an odd assortment of recyclables. PRIOR CAREER

Freelance illustrator and graphic design consultant for ten years (1990 to 1999). Client work included illustration, exhibit design, claymation, digital animation, icon design, screen design, and storyboarding for various publishing companies and software companies. Corinne has also contributed to numerous books and magazines on digital illustration.
